Sexual Assault Risk Reduction and Resistance: Theory, Research, and Practice examines sexual assault risk reduction programs for young women. Following an ecosystemic perspective, the book examines individual risk and protective factors for sexual victimization, as well as peer-, family-, community- and societal-level factors that influence risk for sexual violence. Although the volume includes a discussion of broader-level initiatives to prevent sexual assault (i.e., bystander intervention programs, sexual assault prevention programs), the primary focus is on risk reduction and resistance programs for young women. . The book features an introduction that operationalizes risk reduction, then highlights the rationale and need for risk reduction, raises current controversies and questions facing the field, and outlines the current state of the science. The second section focuses on risk and protective factors for victimization and how these factors guide risk reduction efforts. The third section outlines the theory and research of current sexual assault risk reduction and resistance practices. The last section of the book addresses special populations and future directions.
