At the close of a long, brutal pandemic, a group of hospital workers begin to breathe a sigh of relief-believing the worst has finally passed. But their hope is short-lived.
Without warning, patients across the hospital begin to wake from comas in a state of uncontrollable rage, violently attacking anyone in sight. As chaos engulfs the wards, two survivors-hardened by desperation-band together. Moving room to room, they fight through the infected, rescuing who they can and eliminating those beyond saving.
After a couple of harrowing days, they manage to reclaim the hospital. But just as a sense of safety begins to settle in, news breaks: the rest of the country is collapsing.
Haunted by the horrors he witnessed-and the choices he made-one of the survivors leaves, heading out to find his partner. What he discovers is a scene of a massacre and no sign of his partner. With nowhere else to go, he retreats to a storage warehouse used by the hospital, fortifying it with weapons and supplies. The others beg him to return, but the trauma has hollowed him. He can't go back.
Several months later during a bitter winter, a lone survivor arrives-a young woman he recognizes. Desperate, she pleads for his help: a brutal group has taken her mother hostage. Moved by guilt and a flicker of old humanity, he agrees to help.
But he doesn't realize-he's walking straight into a trap that will force him to face his demons.
