Originally published in 1984, Alternative Perspectives on School Improvement has the theme that schools can be best improved by re-exploring the nature of teaching, by emphasizing the building on the uniqueness and diversity of teachers, and by appreciating the culture from which and in which teaching and learning occur. School improvement is a generic term that refers to those developmental efforts that focus on the school as the major unit of change in the educational system. As such school improvement encompasses topics such as in-service, the professional development of teaching, the implementation of education and innovation, school-focused curriculum development, organisation development, and the roles of administrators, teachers and students in knowledge utilisation.
