Zusammenfassung

The Second World War is over, and an Iron Curtain is being drawn across Europe.

In a fractured Berlin, Charles Cooper - now a senior British intelligence officer - is hunting a Nazi fugitive wanted by the Americans and Soviets as well. Meanwhile, NKVD official Ilya Dvorkin is beginning to question his loyalty to Moscow...

The years creep by and, as the Cold War takes hold, the death of Stalin triggers a period of uncertainty in the Kremlin. When Khrushchev emerges victorious from the leadership struggle, he denounces Stalin in a secret speech, triggering a violent wave of anti-Soviet unrest in Eastern Europe.

Cooper and his wife, Pamela, both now working for MI6 in Warsaw, are perfectly placed to take advantage of the panic and uncertainty. Soviet officials, fearing for their lives, will trade anything they know for safety in the West.

Has the luck of 'Archie' - the Russian double-agent at the heart of British intelligence - finally run out?

The explosive final novel in the Double Agent series from 'one of the superstars of modern spy fiction'.

Praise for Alex Gerlis

'One of the superstars of modern spy fiction' Daily Express

'Pulse-racingly brilliant' Daily Mirror

'Gerlis's... enthusiasm for the period is infectious and this is becoming a classy portrait of the Soviet penetration of Britain's establishment' The Times

'Gerlis skilfully evokes both the era's high politics and a world of everyday encounters threaded with mortal danger' Financial Times

'With this brilliant tale of a writer entangled in pre-World War II espionage, Gerlis cleverly builds an ironic and darkly realistic world that shows just how nebulous is the border between good and evil, observer and participant, our inner and outer lives. Richly imagined, meticulously plotted, and chockfull of historic details, Every Spy a Traitor is one of those rare books that gets better with every page. One of the best spy novels I've read' I. S. Berry, author of The Peacock and the Sparrow

'Clever plotting, rich detail and a compelling story of a young man forced to become a double agent to survive in a world where friends become adversaries and no one can be trusted. Every Spy a Traitor will reward fans of Graham Greene, Charles Cumming, Frederick Forsythe and Alan Furst' Paul Vidich, author of Beirut Station

'Fascinating... A pleasant blend of John Buchan derring-do if lightweight adventures and the more gritty Le Carré-like grey travails in the secret corridors of power' Maxim Jakubowski, Crime Time

'An absorbing portrait of a world on the brink that disarms you before it floors you' Tim Glister, author of Red Corona

'Gerlis's depth of research and understanding of the conflicting political currents of the epoch make for a rich tapestry of fact and fiction, and the parallel plot lines grip like a vice, with characters barely a step away from catastrophe or triumph at any given moment. Loyalties are strongly questioned as the landscape of history unfolds in all its horrors and shame, while the two sided main characters struggle with all too human failings against a tide always likely to overwhelm them. Great, high-octane stuff. Highly recommended' Crime Time

Alex Gerlis was a BBC journalist for nearly thirty years and is the author of fourteen Second World war espionage thrillers, all published by Canelo.

He was born in Lincolnshire and now lives in west London with his wife and two black cats. Alex supports Grimsby Town, which he believes helps him cope with the highs and especially the lows of writing a novel. He's frequently asked if he's ever worked for an intelligence agency but always declines to answer the question in the hope that someone may believe he actually has.
